Start

The race officially begins on Sunday at 10:00 am in Spitz and continues downstream on the B3 towards Krems.

The starting line is located directly next to the ship station in Spitz.

Be there and experience the unique flair of the half marathon start in Spitz with lovely Danube views.

From Emmersdorf to Krems

The WACHAUmarathon running route is enjoyed and appreciated by thousands of hobby runners due to its flat topography. There is hardly an easier and faster stretch than the one between Emmersdorf and Krems. Beginners especially appreciate when there is a running event with no hill or mountain. These ideal topographical conditions enable them to more easily achieve their own personal running goals. On the other hand the WACHAUmarathon can offer performance-oriented runners the perfect conditions for a fast race. In this way the Wachau “track” especially promotes personal best performances.

The marathon starts in Emmersdorf at 10 a.m. at the same time as the halfmarathon gets started in Spitz. The marathon route goes upstream from Emmerdorf on the B3 until the small village of Weitenegg, where the runners will get to the road next to the beautiful danube and turn downstream back to the starting point in Emmersdorf. From there on the route follows the B3 until reaching Krems. In Krems you won’t have to run through the city any more which makes the marathon both: more attractive and faster!

The relay race can be run in a team of 2, 3 or 4 runners:

2 runners team:

  • The start is at the same time as the marathon in Emmersdorf.
  • Runner 1 runs 22,9 km.
  • The baton is passed at the starting line of the half marathon in Spitz.
  • Runner 2 runs 19,3 km to the finish line.

3 runners team:

  • The start is at the same time as the marathon in Emmersdorf.
  • Runner 1 runs 22,9 km.
  • The baton is passed at the starting line of the half marathon in Spitz.
  • Runner 2 runs 12,2 km to the loop in Durnstein.
  • The baton is passed to runner 3, who runs 7,1 km to the finish line.

4 runners team:

  • The start is at the same time as the marathon in Emmersdorf.
  • Runner 1 runs 7,4 km.
  • The baton is passed at the starting point of the marathon in Emmersdorf.
  • Runner 2 runs 15,5 km to the starting line of the half marathon in Spitz.
  • Runner 3 runs 12,2 km to the loop in Durnstein.
  • The baton is passed to runner 4, who runs 7,1 km to the finish line.

Attention handover:
The waiting area for the handover is approx. 10 meters in front of the timing mat at km 7.4; 22.9 and 31.5. The handover takes place when both runners run over the mat at the same time.

Transponder timing

All runners need a ChampionChip.

If you do not have your own chip, you have to book a chip when registering online. The timing systems only read green and yellow ChampionChips. All other and different colored chips cannot be processed.

Participants who only want to RENT (costs € 5,-)  a chip for this event will receive a GREEN DAY CHIP for one-time use at the start number distribution.

Participants who want to BUY a chip will receive a YELLOW CHIP at the start number issue for € 33. You can use the yellow chip at all events managed by Championchip worldwide. This yellow chip cannot be returned, and chips that have already been purchased cannot be returned.

Travel to the relay marathon start in Emmersdorf

You have various options for getting to the marathon start in Emmersdorf an der Donau.

The bus and trains are included in the entry fee.

You must choose your travel option at the registration. On your bib number you will find your choice and the time.

Please note that the road through the Wachau is closed from 8:00 a.m. on the day of the event and can no longer be used.

Arrival by private car is therefore only possible before 8:00 a.m. via the B3 – at a later point in time only via unblocked roads.

Baggage transport

Baggage transport will be carried out by busses located near the starting area and marked with your event and bib number.

Please have your bib number at hand when dropping off and picking up baggage.

Baggage may be deposited beginning an hour before the event until at the latest 10 minutes before the start.

At the finish line the busses will be located near the conference halls – please follow the signs.

We inform you that only clothing bags distributed by the organizer and marked with name and number will be transported.

We take no responsibility for lost articles, most especially including clothing sacks and the valuables deposited in them.

We recommend putting a change of clothes into the next runner’s clothing bag, which will be handed over in the transfer zone. The end runner can put a clothing bag in the changing room of the conference center in the morning.

Energy stations along the route

Catering during the run is an important element in any runner’s success. For this reason the WACHAUmarathon team works hard every year to provide the ideal availability of liquids and food along the route.

Working with our partners we are able to set up 12 Hydration/Energy Stations along the entire marathon route.

During the half marathon you can refill your energy reverses at:
